Island Slipper Scoops
Bringing you slipper tracks and tips straight from the islands
Aloha!
The holiday season is in full swing, hope you've got all your shopping done! Last month we were pleased to support the Palama Settlement's century anniversary. This month we watched the Shaka Santa and Snowman family leave their usual home to be set up in downtown for the Honolulu City Lights. And we heard from a special customer who is out with the old and in with the new!
Malama Palama Festival of 100 Voices
November 20, 2011
Island Slipper popped up a shop at the Palama Settlement's 100 year celebration's Malama Palama Store. All proceeds from Island Slippers that were sold for 50% OFF went to support the Palama Settlement. Island Slipper also donated shopping bags and Island Slipper water bottles, which were handed out to customers in the store. The Palama Settlement is a non-profit, community-based social service agency serving the Kalihi and Palama neighborhoods. In the early years, the nonprofit helped Japanese, Chinese and Hawaiians. Later, a helping hand went to Filipinos, Samoans, Tongans and Laotians. More recently, Micronesians have been coming.
Honolulu City Lights
through 01.02.2012 ยท Downtown Honolulu
The City and County of Honolulu and The Friends of Honolulu City Lights present this month-long celebration, which has been lighting up downtown and bringing joy to hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors for nearly 30 years. Honolulu's Christmas celebration is because of its giant holiday characters situated throughout the Civic Center grounds such as the 21-foot Shaka Santa, the Snow Family and Santa's Sleigh filled with a bag of toys. These larger-than-life outdoor figures provide countless photo settings for families celebrating the holidays. The historic Honolulu Hale, constructed in 1928, is ablaze with colored lights and decorations for the holidays. There's so much to see and enjoy that island families often come down more than once during the holiday season. Hundreds of thousands experience the event over the four-week run. Customer Corner
